Menopause

Menopause is the point at which a person’s reproductive life stops and Menstruation ceases to occur. Perimenopause is the period of time when hormonal levels (oestrogen and progesterone), start to decrease and testosterone becomes more significant, having a greater impact on the body. Periods can become irregular and the ovaries eventually stop releasing eggs until you no longer have a period. If you do not have a period for a year you are considered to have gone through the Menopause. Perimenopausal changes can start to occur in your 40’s with most women going through Menopause in their 50s.

Symptoms of perimenopause and menopause include Hot flushes, headaches, bladder irritation, restless legs, insomnia, depression and general mood swings, anxiety and difficulty concentrating along with night sweats, forgetfulness, brain fog, and aching joints.

Skin can become dry and thinner and it can feel more itchy too. As oestrogen levels drop and follicles become more sensitive to circulating androgens (testosterone), an increase in facial hair can occur whilst body hair can actually decrease.

Common areas of hair growth are on the chin and upper lip but hair can grow anywhere on the face and neck also.

How can Electrolysis help with the Menopause?
Electrolysis can help manage and reduce unwanted hair growth, and once hormonal changes settle any unwanted hair can be cleared permanently. There may be times when new hairs grow, but these can be treated effectively as and when they occur.

The Menopause can be a very unsettling time but there are ways to ease the journey.

HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) can be prescribed to treat many of the symptoms from aching joints to depression. Adapting your diet and exercise along with other treatments and natural remedies can also help to improve physical and mental well-being.

It’s not all misery, the Menopause can mark the start of a new era in life. Families are growing up and leaving home, meaning you have more freedom financially and in terms of time to dedicate to new interests and hobbies. It can be an exciting time to make changes and meet new people with renewed confidence.
